Progress Magazine Unveils its 15th Annual List of Atlantic Canada’s Fastest Growing Companies

Full Full Throttle Power Sports Ranks No. 31 on the 2014 Progress’s Fast 40 with a growth rate of 33%

Halifax, N.S. – Progress magazine ranked Full Full Throttle Power Sports No. 33 on it’s annual Fast Growing Companies in Atlantic Canada list. Now in its 15th year, the magazine’s Fastest Growing Companies List is a highly anticipated ranking of companies in Atlantic Canada that have seen the most significant increase in revenues over the past three years. These are the companies that are setting the pace for the new economy, not just for Atlantic Canada but also nationally.

The 2014 Fastest Growing companies was unveiled in the November issue of Progress magazine and features profiles, challenges, and trends on the 40 Fastest Growing Companies in Atlantic Canada. This year total revenue growth ranges between 4,848% and 25% with a median growth rate of 201%. Fourteen of the companies boast annual sales of more than $25 million while 26 report less than $25 million in sales. Not surprising, almost all of the companies anticipate higher revenues, profitability, and employment for 2015.

“These Fastest Growing Companies come from a wide array of sectors, and the ones reporting the most rapid growth are in innovation, IT, aerospace and defence, ocean technology, and hospitality,” says Progress Publisher Neville Gilfoy. “Even companies that are experiencing 40% growth are showing us that a spike in sales is possible, even in challenging markets. A combination of innovation, talented people, marketing, and new product and export development are key factors, of course.”

Sponsors Phil Clarke, Partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Troy Harnish, Director of Sales for Rogers, celebrated the companies at the Fastest Growing Companies event on Nov. 25, 2014 in Moncton. “These are the Atlantic companies who know what it means to experience tremendous growth,” says Clarke. “And it’s not just growth, but growth in challenging economic times that set these companies apart."

October 2014

Halifax, N.S. — Progress magazine released its annual list of the 2014 TOP 101 Companies in Atlantic Canada, an exclusive ranking of the region’s largest corporations, ranked by revenue for the 2013 fiscal year. Celebrating its 21st year, the TOP 101 offers readers a comprehensive look at the sectors and strategies that are setting the pace for business growth and innovation in the region.

In total the 2014 TOP 101 earned more than $40 billion in total revenues, provided employment for more than 173,000 people in our region, and own assets of more than $39 billion.

“In Atlantic Canada, growth is real and with 69 companies reporting growth from between 1% and 106% there are billions of dollars in increased revenues at play,” says Neville Gilfoy, the publisher of Progress magazine. “I have spoken with business leaders across the region who have connections all over the world; they believe we’re at the front end of a long and prosperous growth ramp. It would seem that the TOP 101 Companies are already out in front of that idea.”

Topping this year’s list, and for the 13th straight year, is Stellarton-based Empire Company Ltd. (No. 1). Last year the company reported sales of more than $20 billion, making it the No. 2 national grocery player in the country. Following Empire’s purchase of Canada Safeway last year, the company is right-sizing its portfolio, instructing suppliers to reduce prices, and positioning itself as a leader in the better food movement. “Now the focus is on making sure our operations are really focused, efficient, and effective,” says Paul Sobey, the former president and CEO of Empire.
